Carrie E. Jennings

Carrie is the Research and Policy Director at Freshwater Society. She has been a field geologist for 24 years, 22 of those with the Minnesota Geological Survey and two with the DNR, Division of Lands and Minerals. Carrie is Adjunct Graduate Faculty at the U of M and was the science reports lead for the County Geologic Atlas program at the DNR. She applies her understanding of glacial geology and landscape evolution to shape policy and technical approaches for managing surface water and groundwater, avoiding hazards, and  using resources wisely. Carrie and her husband live on a 120-acre farm which is primarily in a permanent conservation easement through the Dakota County Farmland and Natural Areas Program. Livestock is limited to a dozen chickens, a dog and a couple of cats. She has twice been elected town board supervisor and served on the planning commission for Eureka Township.

Shana Kaplow

Shana Kaplow is a visual artist based in St. Paul, Minnesota. She is Professor Emerita of 2D Media and Interdisciplinary Studies in the Art Department at St. Cloud State University, and is currently Associate Director of Artist Development at PF Studios/Public Functionary in Minneapolis, MN. Her paintings, sculptures, and videos are considerations of the personal and collective complexities of everyday consumption, implicating a world that is intimate yet also environmentally and economically bound together. Her current work deals with the substance of energy; exploring qualities of crude oil and sunlight to engage with experiences of loss and hope. Shana has exhibited her work nationally and internationally at venues such as The Minneapolis Institute of Art, The Tianjin Museum of Art, The Asheville Museum of Art, Dreamsong Gallery, and Detroit Artists Market. Her video work has been screened at The Walker Art Center, and the Austro-Sino Arts Program in Beijing, China. She has received the Joan Mitchell Foundation Artists Grant for Painters and Sculptors, the Bush Foundation Artist Fellowship, the McKnight Foundation Artist Fellowship, and several MN State Arts Board Creative Individuals Grants. She has been an artist in residence at Yaddo, the Joan Mitchell Center, Red Gate International Art Residency, Grand Marais Art Center, Vashon Island Artist Residency, and the Vermont Studio Center. The first monograph about her work, Object Objects, was published in 2019. Shana is the founder of a Twin Cities Art + Science consortium, bringing together an interdisciplinary group of artists and scientists to share research and dialogue. Wes Meier

Wes is the Co-Founder and CEO of Cova (formerly EOS International), a social enterprise that empowers rural families in Central America with access to safe drinking water solutions. After graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering from Iowa State University, Wes worked as an Agriculture Specialist with the Peace Corps in Nicaragua, Central America. Upon completing his service with the Peace Corps, he started a manufacturing facility in Senegal, managed manufacturing partnerships in China, and lead a human-centered design innovation lab in Malawi. Wes now runs Cova with a team of dedicated staff, reaching nearly 1 million people with safe drinking water. Wes is a recent graduate of the Stanford Graduate School of Business, World Economic Forum Global Shaper Alumnus, currently serves on several nonprofit boards as well as sitting on the Advisory Council of the United States Global Leadership Coalition.
