Annual NRT Circularity Symposium
Mark your calendar for the annual NRT Symposium on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 from 3:00-5:00pm in the Civil, Environmental, & Geo-Engineering building, room 210 and on zoom. Hear students present brief talks about their research and experience in the Circularity NRT Program. Faculty, students, Fall 2024 NRT students, internship supervisors, and community partners are encouraged to attend as this is a chance to provide invaluable, structured feedback to students. Open to the public. Refreshments and snacks will be served; RSVP here.
National Sustainability Society Conference in Seattle, Sept. 9-12, 2024
The National Sustainability Society (NSS) will host a national conference to bring together academics, students, and practitioners within the field of sustainability to build consensus on the key principles, competencies, capacities, frameworks, and substance of sustainability as both a scholarly realm and as a rapidly expanding field of practice across the private, public, and nonprofit sectors. NSS focuses on the dialog and community building to support scholarly activities needed to support sustainability transformations across sectors.

Past Events
In February 2024, the cohort and Artist in Residence toured Eureka Recycling to learn about policy advocacy work that improves recycling in MN, where and how waste is sorted, the economic volatility of various recycled materials, and the treatment, culture, and training of the labor force. Students were motivated to become more informed about recycling and to see efforts towards achieving circularity when it comes to waste.
Friday, February 2, 10:10-11:00am in CEGE Room 210: A panel of local professionals will speak to graduate students and faculty about how their work strives for a more circular economy. Click here to view the recording.
In September 2023, the cohort and Artist in Residence toured the Hmong American Farmers Association (HAFA) to learn about land use, diverse knowledge systems, barriers to sustainable farming, Hmong agricultural and refugee history, and innovative research and technology possibilities. Students’ exposure to the farmers and to HAFA’s operations impacted their thoughts on policy structures, land ownership, crop insurance, business models, and how Hmong traditional farming methods and new technologies might merge in a culturally-appropriate and sustainable way.
